When celebs post on social media, fans tend to interpret the messages in many different ways. For Lorde, followers thought her recent Instagram post about "pretty famous boys and girls are on yachts" was a diss at the number of celebrities celebrating the start of 2016 on fancy boats in exotic locales, like Kendall Jenner and Justin Bieber. But sorry, there's no new feud brewing — Lorde edited the Instagram post to say she's not throwing shade at anyone. "If I were on an island or in even nearish proximity to a yacht, you would be hearing all the f--k about it," the 19-year-old singer wrote as an edit to the regular post. "Just making fun of my own lameness."
Unlike Jenner, Harry Styles, Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, Lorde did not spend New Year's on a yacht in St. Bart's — she rang in 2016 in her native New Zealand while playing Disney board games, according to Twitter. Hey, that sounds pretty fun, too. Her original IG post was a painting of a girl standing by the railing of a boat and looking out at the water, looking somber. The full text of the lengthy caption read:
when you scroll through your feed and all the pretty famous boys and girls are on yachts or in saint barth's and you're at home where it's raining and you've never even been on a holiday to another country before, never been to a tropical island let alone saint barth's and actually you aren't even sure if you're spelling saint barth's right
At first glance, it could be interpreted that Lorde was voicing some bitterness or shade towards her famous peers, so it's a good thing she decided to add some clarification to the post. Call off any mean tweets or comments about the singer's post — it's all good between these young celebs, and Lorde seems to have no qualms about how she started the year off.
Instead, let's all focus on the fact that the Grammy winner will most likely finally be releasing a new album in 2016. Lorde recently teased it in a New Year's Eve tweet, writing, "whispered the album name to my mum today." No word on what the album will be called or if it will actually be released this year, but at least fans now have confirmation that the record, the follow-up to her 2013 smash hit Pure Heroine, is definitely on the way.
