Here's A Bizarre Way You Can Eat A Watermelon

by Dasha Fayvinova

You might have thought that you've mastered the art of eating, but I beg you to reconsider after watching this video of a boy eating a watermelon at a sporting event. Like the Terminator that just won't quit until his mission is complete, 10-year-old Mitchell Schebeci won't stop eating his watermelon until it is fully gone. And let me tell you, he was working on that thing like a true #champ. Luckily for us, the camera crew happened to catch him during his mission and let the entire world fall deeply in love with his huge watermelon. Seriously — that thing looks like something David Letterman would gladly chuck off the roof of his studio.

While that last line might have been a bit dated, the reaction to Mitchell's attempts have been very modern. Twitter and other social media has picked up on this guy's talent. The combination of this being at a cricket match, the watermelon being bigger than his head, and the sport commentator's banter made Mitchell an Internet celebrity. (Which is no small feat these days.) It's pretty hard to make it to the top of the news cycle unless you do something truly remarkable. And this boy eating an ENTIRE watermelon is pretty dang remarkable.

Personally, fruit are not generally part of my daily diet. I don't know why, but I have never been that big of a fan. I eat them when they are put in front of my face, but I don't actively seek them out. Seeing someone enjoy mellon that much was eye opening. Maybe I was missing something in my life. I think I might just go out and buy a big one myself and see if I can out-eat Mitchell and make it as an online celeb myself. One can only dream right? Anyway, below are the highlights from his incredible attempt at eating an entire watermelon at a cricket match.

1. I Have Questions

I have a few questions for this fella right here. Firstly, how did he bring this thing into the stadium? Did no one question a small boy lugging that thing through security or something? Also...where are his parents!? He seems to be an unaccompanied minor. Maybe this is a Castaway situation and the melon is his Wilson. I need answers, people!!

2. Sports Caster Banter

If I needed any more reason to love an accent, these sportscasters were making me want to move to Australia tonight. They were amazed by the fact that this young boy was eating the entire watermelon. I personally think that the part near the green is the tastiest. It's tart and not as mushy as the red part. You go kid.

3. Tale As Old As Time

Mitchell learned a valuable lesson. When one gets famous other people want to get in on the action. Keep your head high kid, you'll go far.
