These 8 Year Olds Have Some Solid Life Advice

by Emma Cueto

Throughout our lives, we're always growing and learning new things — but sometimes we also forget important lessons we once knew. So take a moment and soak up some wisdom from childhood with the "Best Life Advice From 8 Year Olds" video from BuzzFeed. Because let's be honest — in some ways, we had a much better grip on life when we were kids.

There are a lot of downsides to being 8. You can't drive, or see PG-13 movies, and you probably have a pretty early bedtime (although the further you get in adulthood, the better your childhood bedtime seems, doesn't it?). On the other hand, you don't have to deal with things like jobs or multiplication tables yet, so that's pretty great. But more importantly, your outlook on life is wonderfully clear headed. The world hasn't had time yet to get you all mixed up with all its complicated weirdness. Things are simple. And sometimes, those lessons really are the most important.

So what can you learn from an 8 year old? Turns out, quite a bit. I mean, no one expects kids in the third grade to have discovered the meaning of life or the key to enlightenment, but still. Here are four lessons worth holding onto from BuzzFeed's "Best Life Advice From Eight Year Olds" video, because we all could use a little wisdom from yesteryear. Scroll down to watch the whole thing.

1. "Mom Always Finds Out."

Too true. In fact, this is still true for me and I'm in my 20s.

2. "Never Tease People."

Because otherwise, they'll think you're jealous of them. It's actually quite sophisticated reasoning for an 8 year old — I know adults who haven't worked that out.

3. "You Can Like What You Want."

Again, there are grown adults who haven't figured out that people can like what they want, whether or not it lines up with traditional gender norms or other societal expectations, but this 8 year old has it down.

4. "Fight For Your Rights!"

Amen. Amen.
