We're all pretty nostalgic for the '90s right now, but not every celebrity is wanting to go that far back. Nicki Minaj got blonde highlights, according to People magazine, and the chunky streaks are a total throwback to the '00s, which somehow does not feel like it was 16 years ago. Who else feels kind of old right now?
In today's world of balayage, baby lights, and ombre, chunky highlights feel totally taboo, but in the '00s, they were all the rage, and it was like, a symbol of your pop star status to be rocking them. Love them or hate them, it looks like Minaj is bringing them back, posting seven selfies on Instagram showing them off. The rest of her hair is black, but there are now several bleached blonde streaks on the ends, starting at about her shoulders. And subtle would not be the correct word to describe them — these highlights are super bright, and super chunky. Then again, if it wasn't statement making, it just wouldn't feel like Nicki Minaj.
The singer didn't really caption any of the photos, other than a few emojis, but judging by the sheer number she posted, I think it's safe to say she's totally into her new hair color.
Werk. This is a look we have not seen in a while.

No one rocked chunky highlights quite like Christina Aguilera, and they were every teenage girl's parents nightmare.
Before she went super blonde, Jessica Simpson had some chunky highlights.
As did Kelly Clarkson. But it wasn't just a singer thing...
Who could forget Nicole Richie's chunky streaks?
Even Hilary Duff had them.
And so did Queen Bey. It looks like Nicki Minaj is in seriously good company.
