15 Essential Drugstore Products For Pixie Cuts
So you finally took the plunge and got a pixie cut — congratulations! But if you're struggling hard over how to style it on the cheap, I've scouted out all the best drugstore products and tools for pixie cuts. With a little patience and willingness to dig through the hair aisle, you can leave the drugstore armed with a bag full of pixie styling goodies and a still full wallet.
I joined team short hair very, very recently and am still totally adjusting to getting a pixie cut for the first time. I'll be the first to admit that today is one of those days I feel really unattractive with short hair, but know that it will pass and I'll love my pixie again tomorrow.
On the days I'm feeling extra down about my hair, raiding my box of drugstore pixie styling purchases helps remind me that this little haircut has tons of options and I can play up the look in a slew of different ways. I'm definitely still learning how to style a pixie and get it right consistently, but practice makes perfect and I'm realizing I have to be patient with myself.
If you're in a similar situation as I am, consider adding the products and tools below to your bathroom shelf!
1. Messy Look Flexible Hair Paste
Messy Look Flexible Hair Paste, $13, Amazon
I know it's technically a "men's product," but Axe's hair paste is by far one of my top affordable options for styling paste. It goes on thick and adds just the right amount of texture to my otherwise fairly flat strands.
2. Argan Oil Shampoo
Argan Oil Shampoo, $9, Amazon
I'm a huge fan of OGX's argan oil shampoo, as it adds shine and softness to my strands without stripping it of all the oils I need to create texture.
3. Liquid Shine Clear Hair Glaze
Liquid Shine Clear Hair Glaze, $7, Amazon
For a super sleek pixie, this hair glaze is by far the best of the budget versions.
4. Deep Recovery Hair Mask
Deep Recovery Hair Mask, $11, Amazon
This sulfate-free mask is my obsession for keeping my seriously razored pixie edges from getting fluffy and frizzy.
5. Maximum Hold Mousse
Maximum Hold Mousse, $8, Amazon
To get a dramatic faux hawk, mousse ensures things will stay in place all night long.
6. Sturdy Comb
Conditioning Comb, $7, Cricket
To push the sides of your pixie in the direction you want to go, a quality little comb will go a long way!
7. Dry Shampoo
Dry Shampoo, $6, Amazon
While grease is super useful in styling your pixie, a little shake of dry shampoo will help keep things looking fresh and smelling squeaky clean.
8. Ionic Blowdryer
Ionic Blowdryer, $21, Revlon
Although it's a bit of a drugstore splurge, an ionic blowdryer will help you get styled and head out the door in two minutes. And the ionic bit is totally worth it, as it fights frizz and static while your hair dries. #Win
9. Baby Powder
Baby Powder, $3, A mazon
To add a little of the good kind of "dirty" texture, shake baby powder into your roots and twist things around a bit.
10. Pixie Play Craft Cream
Pixie Play Craft Cream, $7, A mazon
If you need an extra strong hold, the pixie play craft cream will lock your hair in place without any gloppy gel residue.
11. Molding Wax

If you're more into wax instead of cream, the one from FX is stupid cheap and will bend your strands in any which way your heart desires.

For those of you rocking those long pixies, a mini curling iron is the perfect sized tool to add a little extra glam when you want.
