Gigi Hadid Loves Being In Her BF's Music Videos

by Michelle McGahan

In case you couldn't tell by their very public flirtation on Twitter, Zayn Malik dropped his Gigi Hadid-centric music video "Pillowtalk" on the night of Thursday, Jan. 28. Besides gaining traction from the fact that "Pillowtalk" is Malik's debut single as a solo artist and the song is hot AF, the music vid features real-life couple Malik and Hadid making out, making out, and making out some more — you know, just for good measure. While I'd be the last one to want to detract any attention away from my new jam "Pillowtalk," it's worth noting that this is far from the first time that Hadid has starred in a boyfriend's music video — or a music video in general. In fact, Gigi Hadid has starred in music videos steadily from 2014 to 2016, werkin' that career straight into success.

Perhaps it's not that surprising that the 20-year-old worked her way up in the music (video) industry, considering she's had extensive experience in front of the camera (both as a model and on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills with her mom, Yolanda Foster) and her step-dad David Foster is an incredibly successful and influential music producer. There's also no denying that Hadid has been a part of her boyfriends' videos in some way (starring in two Cody Simpson vids, directing a Joe Jonas video, and now fronting Malik's). As Hadid's star rises, I can only wait to see what music video she'll star in next. Malik's next single? We can only hope.

Check out all of the music videos Hadid has been involved in below — so far she's been in six and directed one!

Zayn Malik, "Pillowtalk" (January 2016)

Malik and Hadid get hot and heavy in the sexy "Pillowtalk" vid, but I'll let their super flirty Twitter exchange do the talking here:

Flame emojis, indeed.

DNCE, "Cake By The Ocean" (October 2015)

Though Hadid didn't actually star in the DNCE video — fronted by her boyfriend at the time, Joe Jonas — she did co-direct it. Their relationship may not have worked out, but at least the music video did.

"She's always had a high creative eye so she came up with [a] concept and we rolled with it," Jonas told Entertainment Weekly of Hadid's creative direction. "She was a good boss.”

Calvin Harris & Disciples, "How Deep Is Your Love" (August 2015)

Was it Hadid's friendship with Calvin Harris' girlfriend Taylor Swift that led the model to star in the producer's "How Deep Is Your Love" vid? That probably had something to do with it, but I'm gonna go with the fact that by this point, Hadid had three major music video credits under her belt and is a very successful model.

Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar, "Bad Blood" (May 2015)

Hadid portrayed the badass Slay-Z in T. Swift's epic "Bad Blood" music video, and Slay-Z she did.

Cody Simpson, "Flower" (February 2015)

"Flower" was the second music video of Simpson's that featured Hadid, which makes sense since she dated the Aussie singer for years. Unlike in the "Surfboard" vid, the extent of Hadid's presence in "Flower" is basically her looking bored on a couch while Simpson strums the guitar. But hey, it still counts.

Miguel, "Simplethings" (May 2014)

Hadid was a beauty in black and white when she starred in her second-ever music vid; this time Miguel's "Simplethings" in May 2014.

Cody Simpson, "Surfboard" (April 2014)

The first music video that Hadid starred in was then-boyfriend Simpson's "Surfboard" vid — a sound so incredibly different than the acoustic, chill music he puts out now that it's almost funny. One of the best parts about shooting the video with his girlfriend, Simpson told MTV at the time, was that they "didn't stop" kissing even after the director yelled cut.

All I can say is that after watching the "Pillowtalk" music video, I imagine the same thing happened with Zayn.
