12 Things To Do Instead Of Watching The Super Bowl
Super Bowl Sunday might be a treasured American holiday, but not everyone celebrates it. To non-football fans, there are plenty of better things to do rather than watch the Super Bowl. I mean, it's certainly fun eating multiple cheese-covered appetizers and making fun of announcer catch phrases and hilarious commercials, but there's only so much of that you can do on Super Bowl Sunday before you're ready for a serious nap.
Don't get me wrong, there are few things in this world that compare to seeing a bad-ass Beyonce performance live, but outside of those eight minutes, there are better ways to spend a Sunday than watching a sport that you care zero percent about. Especially since you'll be able to catch up on the highlights the following day via headlines on the Internet.
Since the majority of the country will be at someone's house, glued to the TV, there won't be very many people out and about once the game begins. And the lack of crowds in public — because crowds are the worst — makes it the prime day to go out and explore. Or stay home and enjoy a quiet, cozy day in. So if you're looking for other ways to enjoy Super Bowl Sunday that have nothing to do with the Super Bowl itself, here are some ideas.
1. Watch a new show
While everyone else you know is tuned into the game, you can curl up at home with some takeout and a new show. Because if you haven't yet seen Making a Murderer, now is the time. Seriously.
2. Go outside
Go for a walk. Go for a hike. Or bring a book and chill in the park — winter weather permitting. Enjoy the quiet outside your door, because everyone else is inside watching TV.
3. Finish reading that book
You know the one. That book you heard was amazing but you haven't had time to finish. Now you have time. So finish it and bask in the glow of completing a relaxing task.
4. Have a cocktail
Decide not to drive anywhere, and kick back with an adult beverage. Everyone else in the country is doing it, and will most likely be hurting tomorrow, so why not indulge? Plus, this will be way more fun because you won't have to endure a game whose score you don't give a flip about, or listen to the rantings of acquaintances you can barely tolerate.
5. Try a little coloring
Coloring for adults is back in — finally. There are gorgeous and intricate coloring books for adults you can get, and it's an excellent way to chill.
6. Cook something new
Make a feast that's just for you. You'll feel like a boss for preparing a new meal you've never tried before, and you'll get to enjoy every bite without sharing.
7. Eat all the cheese
There's no such thing as too much cheese. And Super Bowl Sunday is the perfect day to fill up on cheddar and brie. Everyone is eating gooey, cheese-covered snacks right now, and you should too.
8. Make money on your money
If you haven't started investing in your financial future yet, now is as good a time as any. Investing can seem like an intimidating, overwhelming practice, but in 2016, there are plenty of apps and programs that make it simple and fun. Acorns, for example, is linked to your bank account and automatically invests your spare change from transactions into a diversified portfolio. If nothing else, signing up will make you feel like an actual grownup, which is always a good feeling.
9. Clear out your closet clutter
You know there are items of clothing in your closet that could be tossed or donated. Sort through your clothes and get rid of everything that doesn't fit, is tied to a sad memory, or that you haven't worn in over a year. You don't need that baggage.
10. Assemble a new look
Once your closet contains only the clothes you love, spend an hour playing dress up and put together some killer new outfits.
11. Make plans for Leap Day
You guys, we all get an extra day this year! This is a leap year, and you get a full 24 hours that you normally would not. Spend it wisely, and plan out something awesome for Feb. 29.
12. Take a nap
You will never regret taking a nap. It's something your body needs every once in a while, and since the majority of people are sleep deprived, it could be beneficial to your health as well.
