Volkswagen's Super Bowl Ad Is Awesome, As Usual

by Allie Healy

The 2014 Volkswagen Super Bowl ad was released early, and it calls to mind the Christmas classic It's A Wonderful Life, when little Zuzu shrills, "Look, Daddy! Teacher says every time a bell rings, an angel get his wings." Little did Zuzu know, apparently so do German engineers when a VW hits 100,000 miles.

Keeping in the spirit months after the holidays, the ad features a father trying to convince his teenage daughter that once a VW car hits 100,000 miles, a German engineer spontaneously sprouts a full grown set of wings. Ouch. The commercial continues to show dozens of engineers minding their own business in the VW headquarters when POOF! Out extend white, feathery wings while they are inspecting interiors of cars, taking a bathroom break or just casually supervising their fellow colleagues. Could you imagine riding in the elevator with a co-worker and a pair of wings accidentally spanks you? Sorry, dad. I'm not believing that one.

Look out for this commercial during Sunday's broadcast of the Super Bowl and try not to spit out your buffalo chicken wing dip when you see the hilarious ending. This may be my favorite VW ad since the "May the Force Be With You" one from 2011 (which I've also included below for your enjoyment).
