‘Flash’ Will Meet ‘Supergirl’ In National City

If you thought the DC television universe couldn't get any more charming, do I have news for you! Finally, after fans have begged and pleaded, CBS announced Wednesday that there will officially be a Supergirl and The Flash crossover episode. Barry Allen and Kara Danvers are teaming up at last, hopefully for karaoke but probably to solve crime too or whatever.

It won't be a crossover event, like they do with Arrow and now Legends of Tomorrow. Kara won't be getting Cat Grant's latte at Jitters, or hiring Iris West as a freelancer or anything. This is just Grant Gustin playing The Flash/Barry Allen in one guest appearance on an upcoming episode of Supergirl — which according to CBS's announcement, will air on March 28. The plot is still under wraps, but I'm just excited that these floodgates have been opened and that these two shows officially exist in the same universe now.

One one level, this seemed inevitable. Both shows were co-created by Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg. Both Supergirl and Arrow have also called upon Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood as well. They share an affinity for actors who sing good — heck, the stars of both shows were on Glee together. However, the fact that Supergirl and The Flash air on different networks meant that this couldn't happen immediately, so I'm thankful it all worked out.

Of course, the main thing we know about this crossover is that it's gonna be almost too cute to function. Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist are two of the cutest cuties on television right now. I can't wait to see how Kara and Barry get along, they definitely need to compare notes about secret identities — plus, I just realized, this means that poor Barry Allen is about to be told for the first time that aliens exist. Can you imagine? For some reason, I think Kara won't be as shocked to hear about time travel and alternate universes.
