About That Kimye 'Zoolander 2' Cameo...

by Allie Funk

The celebrity cameos of Zoolander 2 have been in discussion for almost a year, and some were visibly confirmed with the release of the first clips. It was already known that Penelope Cruz, Kristen Wiig, and Will Ferrell would be featured in sizable roles, but the Zoolander 2 trailer also revealed cameos from celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joe Jonas, and more. Many other celeb appearances were rumored, and was of the most anticipated was that of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. But if you were looking forward to seeing the celeb couple onscreen with Ben Stiller, I'm afraid I have some bad news: there is no Kimye cameo in Zoolander 2 .

It's interesting that this cameo doesn't happen, given that it's actually been one of the most widely-expected. In fact, the Kardashian-Wests were even listed — and still are — on the the Zoolander 2 IMDB page. But Ben Stiller himself dismissed the rumor in an interview with entertainment site TheFIX. When reporter Yasmin Vought asked Stiller about the supposed Kardashian cameo, he referred to the rumor as "one of those Internet things." Said Stiller, "People say things on the Internet, so...I don't know, somehow— SOMEHOW— this movie doesn't have a Kardashian in it."

Stiller's comments seem to imply that the Kardashian cameo rumors were just that — rumors started, and ended, on the Internet — but even if a cameo had been considered, it may have been difficult to coordinate between the stars' different schedules. Zoolander 2 started shooting in Italy in mid-spring of 2015, an occasion which Stiller commemorated with an enthusiastic post to the official Zoolander Instagram.

At that point in time, Kardashian and West had a ton of projects on their plates, one of which was raising two-year-old daughter North. Then at the very end of May, Kardashian made a big announcement of her own: she was pregnant again with future son Saint. Since it was no secret to Keeping Up With the Kardashians fans that the couple had been trying to conceive, it's possible that this may have taken priority over side projects like upcoming movie cameos.

However, it's noteworthy that Stiller chose to specify that "this movie doesn't have a Kardashian in it", as it would appear from the trailer that Kim's half-sister Kendall Jenner has a cameo in the film (albeit a *very* small one). In the below shot, you can see the beginning of the name "Kendall" written out as one of the five celebrities who have been assassinated.

So even though older sis Kim may not be featured in Zoolander 2, Jenner appears to get a legit shout-out. Kimye fans might be disappointed that their cameo dreams didn't come true, but there's always a chance for another one down the road.
