5 Spring 2016 Blush Trends To Follow

by Jessica Willingham

Blush is back, babies. It's taken a backseat since the contouring, highlighting, and strobing craze, but it's back this spring season. Here are the best spring 2016 blush trends for every style, whether you want a dramatic bronze or a naturally rosy glow.

When I think of spring, I think of bright neons or pastel shades. However, a natural flush is definitely back this year for a lighter, fresher look than the razor sharp dark contours we've been getting used to. A great blush goes well with the strobing trend, which involves highlighting sans contouring. You can go for a super dewy, high shine look by layering highlight on top of your blush, or go for a more subtle glow from within by layering blush on top of your highlight. The best part? Blush and highlight are much simpler than contouring techniques. Win.

This year will be the year of blush, so it's time to brush up on how to pick your perfect shade. The best way to pick your shade is picking the opposite of your natural skin tone. If you're warm-toned, cool-toned blushes work best for you. If you're cool-toned, warm blushes are the way to go. If you can't figure it out, a middle of the road, neutral shade works for everyone.

Below are some of my favorite blush trends, formulations, and shades for 2016.

1. Sun-Kissed Blush

Urban Decay X Gwen Stefani Blush Palette, $45.00, sephora.com

Peachy, super natural shades are in. Mix shades for your perfect, signature color.

2. Lavender Blush

Clinique Cheek Pop in Pansy Pop, $22.00, clinique.com

Purple seems a little out there, but actually looks beautiful on the skin. Start slow and build your color to what you feel comfortable with.

3. Shimmer Blush

Surratt Beauty Artistique Blush in Soft Peach, $32.00, sephora.com

Formulas with a slight shimmer or even glitter are making a comeback this year.

4. Stain Blush

Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Cheek And Lip Stain, $30.00, benefitcosmetics.com

Thanks to the rise of the beauty sponge, working with stain formulations is easier than ever before. Dab this on the apples of your cheeks and blend out with a sponge for a sheer finish.

5. Cream Blush

Maybelline Face Studio Master Glaze in Pink Fever, $6.74, drugstore.com

Dewy skin is in, and cream formulas are perfect for achieving the look. If you have dry skin, this is especially for you.
