7 Beauty Rules Olivia Palermo Lives By

by Alexa Dragoumis

Ever find yourself wondering how your favorite blogger or celebrity's hair is always so perfectly done or how they seem to get their eye makeup right on point every time? Well, I know I definitely have, which is exactly why I scoured the Internet to share beauty rules that Olivia Palermo lives by with you. Read it first, thank me later.

While OP is a major fashion icon, she is also very influential in the beauty world. Famous for the nude lip and smokey eye combo, Palermo always wears just enough to give her a ladylike edge. Her look is always understated and natural, no matter what head-to-toe look she is going for. In an interview with Byrdie, Palermo said, "Makeup really is the best accessory." In her opinion, it's what ties a look together, and I couldn't agree more.

Depending on how closely you follow Palermo, you've probably noticed that she does accent pieces quite well in her day-to-day looks. Whether it's her clothing or her makeup, she always makes just enough of a statement without looking like she spent hours getting ready. While the star admits she spends a lot of time with makeup artists and hair stylists before she gets on set, her day-to-day look is very simple and clean and her beauty regimen definitely reflects that. Ready to be OP beautiful? Here are the rules to live by.

1. Take Care of Your Skin

The one thing you'll always notice about Palermo is that her skin is flawless, which contributes majorly to her overall put-together look. From a young age, Palermo has always taken care of her skin and has religiously visited Dr. Dennis Gross. Because of that, she sticks to his products when it comes to skincare, according to Grazia Daily. Her favorite? His All-in-One Cleansing Foam. She has also said in numerous interviews that the Clarisonic is another skincare item she can't live without, according to InStyle.

2. Use a Matte Foundation

To minimize shine and keep her skin tone even, Palermo chooses a matte foundation and lightly contours over it. She revealed in a POPSUGAR article that she to stick to Yves Saint Laurent foundations, like the Perfect Touch Radiant Brush Foundation.

3. Always Keep Your Mani-Pedi Fresh & Matching

When it comes to upkeep, nails are top priority for Palermo. Whether she's on the road or at home, she makes sure to get a fresh mani-pedi every 4-5 days, and she told InStyle UK that her fingers and toes always match. While Palermo enjoys a good gel manicure, she generally sticks to regular nude polishes because not all European salons have the gel nail option and she isn't a fan of chipped fingernails!

Now her collaboration with Ciate makes sense, right? For an OP approved nude polish, check out Ciate x Olivia Palermo in 'Sundays'.

4. Make Time For Hair

When it comes to hair, even the bedhead look requires some maintenance in the AM. Since her signature look is always polished, Palermo's go-to is the classic blowout. According to Marie Claire UK, the model washes her hair and gives herself a fresh blowout her hair. While she admits that her hair routine is somewhat high maintenance, she feels that a bad hair day can make or break her look.

Palermo keeps her color generally the same and always carries a can of L'Oreal Elnett hairspray for quick day-time freshening up.

5. Keep Your Bathroom Tidy

According to InStyle UK, Palermo is known for being a neat-freak and she is exceptionally passionate about keeping her bathroom tidy. Even when she travels, she neatly packs the products she needs so that they're accessible at any moment. She also makes sure to put her beauty products away after using them as opposed to keeping them laid out on her counter top. If her things are in chaos, she feels like her life is as well!

6. Always Freshen Up Before Leaving The House

"My mother always taught me not to leave the house until you're fully dressed, makeup, nails and everything," said Palermo in an interview with InStyle. Because of that, she never leaves the house without a moisture rich lipstick. One of her favorite lipsticks is... (surprise!) part of her Ciate collaboration — a nude shade called Cashmere.

7. Never Over-Pluck Your Brows

In Palermo's opinion, it's important to keep up with maintaining your brows, but equally as important not to over pluck them. In an exclusive with Grazia Daily, she reveals the one tip she wishes she could have given her younger self, which is to not overpluck your brows. Since the brows frame your face and define your features, they should be neat and visible!

Basically, when following OP's beauty rules, you are going for a polished but overall natural look. Less is more and when traveling, always make sure to have the tools you need to freshen up in a pinch!
