Whoopi Mistaken For Oprah On Oscars Red Carpet

by Michelle McGahan

In a live-tweeting blunder that was up for at least 30 minutes before it was deleted, Total Beauty confused Whoopi Goldberg with Oprah on Twitter while covering the 2016 Oscars on social media. The cringe-worthy tweet, which had been up for more than a half hour despite the swift response from followers, included a photo of Goldberg on the red carpet with the caption, "We had no idea @Oprah was #tatted, and we love it. #Oscars." Yikes all around. Total Beauty has not yet commented on the mistake.

(Update: Total Beauty responded for the mistake and apologized on Twitter not long after deleting the post. Oprah herself also reacted to the news on Instagram.)

Tellingly enough, this was not the first mistake that TotalBeauty has made during their live Oscars coverage. The beauty site also referred to Good Morning America correspondent Lara Spencer as Brazilian singer-songwriter Claudia Leitte (in a tweet which has since been deleted), as well as included a photo of Charlize Theron from the 2014 Academy Awards. I mean, I know live shows come with awkward moments, but I expected those on the carpet and the stage, not on the Internet.

Needless to say, it didn't take long for Total Beauty followers to call out the beauty site for such truly shocking and awkward errors, with fans immediately reacting with horrified GIFs, "#embarrassing" hashtags, and seriously on-point responses. Who is running the social media here?!
