New 'Divergent' Trailer (With Zipline Bonus)

by Maitri Suhas

Shailene Woodley and Theo James ziplined onto Jimmy Kimmel's couch Monday night to talk their new movie (also mountain spring water and Downton Abbey wigs) — they also debuted the second trailer for Divergent, the Veronica Roth trilogy-turned-film series that's preemptively one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, and rightfully so.

It's being nicknamed the next Hunger Games, and yes, the similarities are many — a rebellious young woman in a dystopian future split into hierarchies ("factions" in Divergent, "districts" in Hunger Games) challenges the functions of the institution. Divergent, overall, though, is better cast.

Star Woodley, who plays Tris, is clearly an immense talent; also this year she stars in another wildly popular and loved YA book-to-screen adaptation, The Fault in Our Stars, or as it should be titled, Cry Forever 'til You're Dead. Starring alongside her in Divergent are James (why so handsome, why so British), and a roster of great, talented ladies: Ashley Judd, Zoe Kravitz, Maggie Q, and an icy Kate Winslet with the perfect bobbed haircut.

Woodley showed her chops last year in The Spectacular Now, another film geared toward young adults, and while there are obvious Jennifer Lawrence comparisons, Woodley is an atypical star, so it's unclear how she is going to react to her impending epic stardom. But she is a fantastic young actor and has already earned some heavy roles, and seeing her wrestle a dog to the ground in the new Divergent trailer is a personal little fist-pump this cold Tuesday.

You can watch the trailer here, and I'd watch the Kimmel interview with Woodley and James, too, because damn they are charming.

Divergent hits theaters March 21!
