7 Emergency Fixes For A Chipped Nail

by Lindsey Rose Black

Nothing can boost your mood as quickly as a fresh manicure, and nothing can wreck it more easily than a chipped one. Luckily, these emergency fixes for a chipped nail will get you back to feeling that "Just got my nails did!" high ASAP. The best part? None of these take more than a few minutes, and you'll be good to go in no time.

I remember the first time I got a manicure was on my thirteenth birthday. My mom and sister went with me (I know, the cutest), and I told the woman I wanted a classic French manicure with slightly square shaped nails. Clearly, I'd been reading too much Vogue!

The nail technician did a stellar job and I walked out the door feeling so adult. And then the worst thing ever happened: I chipped my manicure opening the car door. It was a bit devastating and I can't confirm or deny if there were tears (because there were totally tears).

I know I got lucky being right next to the nail salon when I chipped my manicure, but that's not always the case! If you chip your mani (or break your nail!) at a less than ideal moment, you know the struggle. Check out all of these must-know emergency fixes for a chipped nail so you're good to go in a flash.

1. Buy The Manicure Polish

Zoya Nail Polish in Talia, $4, Amazon

An easy way to ensure you'll always have the polish you need to fix a chip is by buying the polish beforehand and carrying it with you. Subway nail touch ups? #Shameless

2. Reuse Primer On Gel

If you're hiding a chip over a gel nail, the key to getting a smooth surface is not skipping primer!

3. For French Manis, Buy A Kit

Zoya Naked Manicure Women's Starter Kit, $18.49, Amazon

If you need to touch up a French manicure, you can get specific kits that make it easy to quickly fix up the nail.

4. Try A Teabag

If you've chipped both your manicure and your nail, you can actually use a teabag (yes, a teabag) to fix the nail and put polish over it.

5. File The Nail Down

Tweezerman Eco-Friendly File, $3.50, A mazon

If you're desperate, you can file out the nail until the chip is gone. The only downside is that your whole nail will be shorter.

6. Hide The Chip With Glitter

One of the easiest hacks in the book, you can cover your nails in glitter top coat to hide any chips!

7. Add A Crackle Layer

And if glitter isn't your thing, check out a crackle top coat instead.
