A 'Men In Black'/'Jump Street' Crossover Is Coming
A project that was first rumored as a result of the Sony hacks now might now be a reality — according to Variety, a crossover between 23 Jump Street and Men in Black is really happening. The director who is now rumored to be attached to the film is James Bobbin, known for making the recent Muppets movies, Rodney Rothman, who wrote 22 Jump Street, has signed on to write, and the film, which will serve as the sequel to 22 Jump Street, will feature Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. However, Men in Black stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will likely not appear in the crossover, as other rumored installments of the franchise are said to feature new faces.
The crossover between the movies makes a lot of sense, as both are humorous and subversive takes on police/detective stories, though admittedly Men in Black takes place in a world with aliens in it. Doing a sequel to 22 Jump Street also makes sense because that movie was so meta and aware of itself as a follow-up to its predecessor. And in any event, crossover films tend to be a lot of fun — here are some you might not have heard of or realized were crossovers, but will totally want to check out.
King Kong Vs. Godzilla
The 1962 B-movie is obviously not great, but it is great crossover camp.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
While some might call Roger Rabbit more of an amalgamation of characters than a crossover, the film did a great job bringing together a lot of famous cartoon characters.
Freddy Vs. Jason
In the movie everyone was waiting for (?), the villains of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street battled it out.
The Avengers
The Avengers did a great, highly profitable job combining many beloved superheroes into one story.
Rugrats Go Wild
Many Nickelodeon films went into the crossover direction, and this one combined Rugrats with The Wild Thornberrys.
Mothra Vs. Godzilla
This Japanese monster mashup is a classic.
The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour
Another Nickelodeon crossover, there were actually three of these, featuring characters from Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Odd Parents.
Wreck It Ralph
The popular recent kids movie brings together characters from many different video games into a surprising crossover hit.
Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man
There were a lot of movies like this in the '40s.
Alien Vs Predator
The sci-fi horror film brought together Alien and Predator and the results were... kind of a mess, but it's great.
Casper Meets Wendy
You might vaguely remember the pairing of Casper the Ghost and Wendy the Witch from childhood VHS collections.
Are we about to enter a new golden age of movie crossovers? I can only hope.
