New 'Daredevil' Season 2 Poster Gives New Insight

by Michelle Lulic

At the end of Season 1 of Daredevil, fans were finally introduced to the supersuit for the blind hero of Hell's Kitchen. However, with new superhuman characters on their way, fans can not only be excited for the fellow heroes and villains of New York's crime-tortured borough, but they can also expect to find a whole new round of superhero style in the outfits they sport while kicking some serious butt. And it seems as if the latest Daredevil Season 2 poster is already showing us the costumes for both of the show's highly-anticipated new characters, The Punisher (played by Jon Bernthal) and Elektra (played by Elodie Yung). Basically, when it comes to your next Halloween costume, you can look no further.

However, the superhero fashion choices reflected in the latest poster doesn't just show us what Marvel might be putting on the shelves of Halloween costume stores. It also gives comic-book fans all of the much-needed nostalgia. It even provides us with insight on what we can expect from both The Punisher and Elektra when they are sporting the outfits in which they are pictured. Superhero (and super-villain) fashion is not simply there without a purpose. Take a look at the poster for yourself so that you can see just how generally awesome all three of these costumes are.

There are multiple reasons as to why this poster is exciting (aside from the fact that they all look awesome). For one, if you didn't recognize the character The Punisher (also known as Frank Castle) before, odds are you do now. With the poster showing off his signature skull t-shirt, Castle is now wearing a costume signifiant to when his character first appeared in the 1974 Amazing Spider-Man #129 comic book, and how he has appeared since — including the character's portrayal by Dolph Lundgren in the 1989 film, The Punisher. This version of the character is going to probably be based off of the comics as much as possible, so, between this — and the recently announced crossover mini-series on it's way — maybe it's time to go back and read his comic-book encounters with Daredevil.

However, there's another character in the poster whose costume gives us further insight on what we can expect. And that is Matt Murdock's highly-anticipated new companion, Elektra Natchios. The totally bad-ass new woman in town is wearing her own red and black suit complete with a lower face-mask. This allows for her costume to not only match the colors of the Daredevil himself (possibly to symbolize that they are on the same team), but to also veer away from her commonly-seen revealing, red outfit. Yep, it's female empowerment at it's finest, and it makes me believe that she is ready to get down to business rather than simply be an object for the male gaze.

Aside from anxiously sitting in front of Netflix waiting to marathon Season 2 of Daredevil come March 18, you can now get your cosplay skills underway. Because I know that, personally, I am so going as Elektra to the next round of New York Comic-Con.
