8 Exfoliating Body Scrubs Without Microbreads

by Sienna Fantozzi

You may have heard by now that microbeads are a pretty terrible thing to have in beauty products. Though the beads, which are actually tiny bits of plastic, pop up in all kinds of scrubs, thanks to their exfoliating properties, they actually pose a serious environmental hazard, according to Forbes. So how are you going to exfoliate without them? I've rounded up several exfoliating body scrubs without microbreads, so you can take care of your skin without contributing to environmental harm.

If you're wondering what the big deal is, know this: Microbreads are dangerous because they can't be filtered, according to the Energy and Commerce Committee. What does that mean? Basically, they go down the drain, into the water, and then can be consumed by things we eventually eat, like fish. Do you really want to be eating plastic beads? I didn't think so.

Fortunately, there have been movements to ban products with microbreads, forcing brands to come up with new products that will get the same job done, without any of the toxic side effects, which is better for the environment, as well as our health. But since we still have a ways to go before shopping for exfoliating products is fool-proof, I've rounded up eight exfoliating body scrubs that don't contain any microbreads, so you can exfoliate with a clear conscience.
