9 People You Forgot Were In ‘Heartbreakers’

by Lindsey Kupfer

In 2001 a hilarious movie about a mother-daughter con team hit theaters and you may have forgotten all about it. Heartbreakers was released 15 years ago and guess what? It’s still pretty awesome. Like everyone else, I totally forgot Heartbreakers existed, so I went back and watched the film. Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt were every bit as awesome as I remembered, but there are a number of talented names I totally forgot were in the film alongside them.

For those of you who have never seen the film, here's the gist: Max (Sigourney Weaver) cons men into marrying her and then her daughter Page (Jennifer Love Hewitt) seduces them. They divorce and the mother-daughter duo take off with the settlement. Page decides she’s ready to go off on her own, but they decide to do one last con together. Heading down to Palm Beach, Max takes on a Russian identity to win over the tobacco king of Florida. Meanwhile Page has a bit of a con going herself with a guy, but she gets a little too far in over her head.

Basically, it’s amazing and it’s on Hulu. Now you have something to do this weekend. But before you revisit the film, here's a reminder of 9 people you might not remember appearing in the film at all.

1. Ray Liotta

The Goodfellas actor plays one of Max and Page’s poor victims and was pretty upset in the film after the girls took off with $300,000. He was recently on Shades of Blue and Modern Family and he’s working on a couple new films.

2. Jason Lee

Aw! Jack was the best! He just happened to fall in love with a con woman, no big deal. Jason Lee is probably better known to most of you as Earl Hickey from My Name Is Earl. He was also in Alvin and the Chipmunks, Almost Famous, Mallrats, and pretty much every other movie Kevin Smith ever made.

3. Anne Bancroft

She was the mother of all con women in Heartbreakers. Anne Bancroft, famous for roles like Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate and Anne Sullivan in The Miracle Worker, passed away in 2005. Heartbreakers was one of her last films.

4. Gene Hackman

What’s faster, naming movies Gene Hackman has been in or hasn’t been in? Hackman plays Max and Page’s final target William B. Tensy in Heartbreakers. After the film he was in The Royal Tenenbaums, Behind Enemy Lines and Runaway Jury, to name a few.

5. Sarah Silverman

Yep. Sarah Silverman’s in the movie and plays a side character who works at Jack’s bar. I don't remember her being huge in 2001, but now she’s everywhere. She was recently praised for her acting in I Smile Back and she’s in Masters of Sex, Bob’s Burgers and pretty much rules the stand-up world.

6. Zach Galifianakis

Zach Galifianakis plays Bill, although I’m not sure they even mention him by name. He also works at Jack’s bar and is always around, but has little dialogue. These days he’s pretty much the most famous person in the movie. Currently he’s on that FX show Baskets, but he's working on a bunch of films including Keeping Up with the Joneses, Masterminds and The Lego Batman Movie.

7. Carrie Fisher

Yep, it’s true Princess Leia has her moment in Heartbreakers too. She’s Sigourney Weaver’s lawyer and is only on for about a minute winning her client $300,000. No big deal.

8. Kevin Nealon

There’s one scene in the film where Max and Page place a bet over who can get a guy to buy them a drink first. Kevin Nealon just happens to be their victim. Of course we all know him now as Doug from Weeds or my personal favorite Kevin Nealon role, Mr. Cheezle from Grandma’s Boy.

9. Jeffrey Jones

You may not know his name and you may not have noticed him in the film as the hotel attendant, but you definitely know him as Ed Rooney from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
