The One SPF You Should Use This Summer

by Miki Hayes

At this point, we're all pretty much on to the importance of sporting sunscreen during prolonged sun exposure. But when it comes to selecting which SPF to wear, there's one sunscreen in particular that we should be using. And I'm not talking SPF level (although it's also important to make sure you're using the best level of protection for you). I'm talking formula. Because dry-oil sunscreen sprays provide the best of every world.

I mean, let's be honest: Applying sunscreen is kind of a drag. Those thick creams take forever to rub in (and still leave you with a white cast), and then they also leave your hands feeling greasy. But the thinner consistency of a dry oil makes this type of SPF easier to rub in for more even coverage and protection, plus it won't make you feel like you have to wash your hands after application. And the fact that it's an oil, means that it offers even more benefits for the skin than just sun protection. It will also help lock in moisture to combat the drying effects of the sun, salt, and chlorine. But because, unlike traditional creams, dry-oil sunscreens can also be used in the hair, those UV-protection and hydration benefits will also help keep hair healthy and protected. Here are five dry-oil sunscreens to try this summer.

1. SPF 30

Clarins Sunscreen Care Oil Spray, $36, Sephora

Not only does this SPF 30 contain skin and hair-conditioning ingredients, but it is also perfect for all skin types.

2. SPF 50

Vita Liberata Passionflower & Argan Dry Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50, $45, Sephora

This sunscreen is so nourishing it can be used in place of your daily moisturizer. Plus it will give skin a dewy, radiant finish.

3. SPF 25

Banana Boat UltraMist Protective Dry Oil (3-pack), $18, Amazon

Argan oil in this SPF 25 will keep skin soft and silky.

4. SPF 50+

L'Oreal Paris Advanced Suncare Invisible Protect Dry Oil Spray, $7, Walmart

This SPF 50+ has a blend of oils that will keep skin hydrated without causing breakouts.

5. SPF 15

Alba Botanica Natural Hawaiian Dry-Oil Sunscreen, $13.50, Amazon

Skin nourishing plus all-natural? Yes please.

Gotta love an SPF that's good for your skin in more ways than one.
