Listen to Her Song Dedicated to Cory

by Ivy Jacobson

With the Feb. 28 release date of her debut studio album, Louder, closing in, Lea Michele released her fifth song from the album — and it may be the most meaningful one yet. On Monday, Lea Michele debuted her new song,"You're Mine," which she has said is her tribute to her late boyfriend, Cory Monteith. The song is co-written by Sia, and to me, this song is a powerful way to express Michele's feelings.

While the song's lyrics are definitely heartbreaking, since Michele sings that she'll be by Monteith's side for life, the tune is surprisingly upbeat and inspiring. Michele commented that "You're Mine" makes her happy because she thinks of Cory, and I think it's an empowering tone for her to take and move forward, rather than a sad melody that may have been too depressing.

"It makes me so happy, this song," Michele said to Elle in November. "It makes me think so much of Cory. It was ours. When I think if him, I play this."

You can read the lyrics to “You're Mine” below:

You're insecure but I was so sure, why I wanted youIt's so powerful, and little girl, why I wanted youSo I told you so, wanted you to knowWe've just one life to liveAnd I told you all my dreams and fearAnd you looked at me and your eyes filled with tearsAnd you said those three words, I've been waiting forYou became a part of meYou're mine, for lifeAnd I'll be by your sideWe are entwinedYou're mine, for lifeHold me until we go, oh yes, and you will love

I'm yours, you're mineI'm yours, you're mineI'm so happy you found the place for me, where you wanted meSomes insecurities, and two happy beings, where you wanted meThen you told me, wanted me to knowYou let the past goAnd I told you all my dreams and fearAnd you looked at me and your eyes filled with tearsAnd you said those three words, I've been waiting forYou became a part of meYou're mine, for lifeAnd I'll be by your sideWe are entwinedYou're mine, for lifeHold me until we go, oh yes, and you will loveI'm yours, you're mineI'm yours, you're mineI'm yours, you're mineI'm yours, you're mine
