The Craziest Hairstyles From The MTV Movie Awards
There is something about MTV events that often make celebrities act a little bit more daring, dress a little bit more bold, or try on crazier-than-normal hairstyles for the night. One event in particular — the MTV Movie Awards — has seen some pretty outlandish fashion faux pas as well as hairstyles. In honor of the 2016 MTV Movie Awards airing on the night of April 3, I’ve compiled some of the most outrageous ‘dos to walk the red carpet — from Christina Aguilera's pink streaks to Katy Perry's bright blue wig.
While the MTV Movie Awards have been pretty tame style-wise the past couple of years, the awards used to be a haven for some questionable hairstyles. Celebrities donned rainbow streaks and crimped curls, asymmetrical pixie cuts, and some pretty elaborate up-dos. As a fan of the early 2000s and its up and coming revival, I'm kind of digging the whimsical sartorial choices and multicolored hairstyles that once graced the red carpet. After all, fashion should be fun, right?
If you are a fan of unconventional hairstyles, or if you just want to see a flashback of your old crush looking a little less polished (Robert Pattinson, I’m looking at you), scroll down to see the craziest and possibly even the coolest hairstyles from the history of the MTV Movie Awards.
1. Christina Aguilera
Braided, crimped, curled, streaked, you name it: In 2001, Aguilera was embracing it.
2. Gwen Stefani
While it might be more tame than most of her early 2000s hairstyles, Gwen Stefani's 2001 waist-grazing pigtails definitely caught my eye.
3. Pink
True to her name, Pink sported a fuchsia-hued pixie cut at the 2001 MTV Movie Awards.
4. Kate Beckinsale
In 2002, Beckinsale dressed up her LBD with a multicolored beehive-esque up-do.
5. Kelly Osbourne
Before Kelly Osbourne went for a lavender 'do, she was donning a bleached blonde hairstyle in 2003.
7. Paris Hilton And Nick Carter
While there is nothing too outlandish about Hilton's look, Carter's frosted tips and structured hair were so 2004.
8. Christina Aguilera, Again
Aguilera makes the list again for her 2004 look with this Marilyn Monroe-inspired hairstyle.
9. Jessica Simpson
In 2005, Simpson sported a very bushy slicked-back mane.
10. Victoria Beckham
Who can forget Victoria Beckham's 2007 bleached blonde asymmetrical pixie?
11. Robert Pattinson
In 2008, Pattinson could get away with just about anything. Even willy nilly styled hair.
12. Katy Perry
Katy Perry brought some color to the red carpet in 2010.
13. Hayley Williams
Williams looked pretty and punk in 2013 with her super short bangs and multicolored 'do.
All I can say is here's hoping that crimped hair makes a comeback circa 2016.
