'HIMYM' Fans Are Still Not Over That Finale

by Caitlyn Callegari

Alright, guys. I am going to be honest, and I hope you'll leave your pitchforks and torches at home. Ready? I didn't really hate the How I Met Your Mother series finale. Please let me explain. I was never a diehard viewer of the show, and whenever I watched HIMYM it was in out-of-order repeats. Basically, I just chuckled along with whatever antics the group got into. But now that the series is over and I've had a lot of time to reflect, I get where everyone else's hatred of that finale is coming from. And I finally understand why many fans will never, ever let it go, if Neil Patrick Harris's birthday tweet to Cobie Smulders is any indication.

What could an innocent birthday tweet have anything to do with the now-defunct show? Because on Sunday, NPH, that cheeky devil, blurred the lines between fact and fiction and wrote, "Happy birthday, @CobieSmulders! You're the coolest, hottest, awesomest girl I've ever had the pleasure to know/kiss/marry/divorce/love." Which, then caused the internet full of Barney and Robin shippers to go wild, making their still-displeased and longing voices heard loud and clear.

Here are some of the impassioned tweets NPH received in response to his Cobie Smulders/Robin Scherbatsky birthday ode:

Clearly, everyone's still fairly salty over the divorce and Robin not ending up with Barney. But they have good reason to be, and here's why:

Robin And Barney Were Supportive Of One Another

High fives were never so romantic.

They Had The Same Sense Of Humor

*Sigh*

They Were In Sync

Look at that!

They Were Romantic

When they wanted to be.

They Had Chemistry

Hot damn!

They Were Legen... Wait For It... Dary

Ugh. It's too sweet.

It's cool to not be over Robin and Barney — they were a timeless and unforgettable TV couple, and it looks like NPH isn't, either. And apparently, not being over how the show ended is still A-OK, too.
