Daisy Ridley Teases 'Episode VIII' In New Q&A

by Michelle Lulic

Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have premiered months ago, but that doesn't mean that the journey for the film's stars is even close to reaching its conclusion. Actress Daisy Ridley's Star Wars Facebook page interview, for example, gave us more than just a look into the onset antics of the cast and crew. Instead, fans quickly learned, through their self-submitted questions, that Ridley's life was turned upside down in more ways than one. That's something that we might have guessed, since getting cast in a film as big as Star Wars can cause anyone's life to go on a whirlwind. But the way that Ridley talks about that, and about how she is going to make sure she does not let her fans down moving forward, is simply inspiring, just like her character in the film.

Even though Ridley knew she was auditioning for Star Wars at the time, it was what she didn't know that really threw her for a loop. "I didn't know what I was auditioning for. As in, the role and everything. When I read the script I was like, 'Oh God. I can't do this. Oh my God,'" she said. "The whole process took such a long time it was just a huge rollercoaster that never ended that whole time." And the rollercoaster is still not quite over yet. "It's funny because I saw my godfather's right before I got cast and they were like, 'Oh my God, you're like a rabbit in the headlights.' Because I honestly was like, 'What is going on in my life?' I think even now I feel much more 'cool' about it, but I still think in 10 years I'll look back and think, 'Oh my God.' Because, obviously, you're experiencing it, but now I wish I could have been more present instead of just freaking out about everything going on."

Thankfully, Ridley didn't just focus on the past. She also gave us a tease of what we can expect from her, and from Rey's storyline, in the future. "I like best that Rey is very hopeful. And that, even though she's been alone for such a long time, and even though the journey is quite difficult, she just keeps going. And she's just trying to do the right thing. She's just trying to carry along. And trying to help the people around her." That might not be much, but it does reinforce that we'll see more of exactly what Star Wars fans love about Rey in the first place.

And, with the current filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII, things apparently only get better for the actress behind the hero. "[Episode VII and Episode VIII] honestly just two very different things... I understand what people loved in VII. So I feel like I'm carrying that responsibility with me, which is nicer because I feel like I'm more part of it. I couldn't say I'm enjoying either one more. It's all this incredible journey. And if I am in [Episode IX], it's all one amazing journey that's involved thousands of people that's leading... Not that it's leading to the end of IX, but the whole thing is like this wonderful, joyous experience."

What began as one terrifying audition for the actress is now continuing as three major blockbuster motion pictures all set to break box office records. And, at this point, all we can do is sit back and enjoy the ride with her. The Star Wars franchise really is just one big magical journey for us all, and it is just now really starting to get on its way all over again for a new generation.
