7 Mascara Brush Tips You Need To Know
Choosing the right mascara for the look you're after is a bit of an art, but picking the right wand is 100 percent crucial. If you don't know where to start when it comes to the world of lashes and the look you want, I've pulled together the essential mascara brush tips for finding the one you want. Whether you're after a natural look or all kinds of glam, you'll be good to go!
Regardless of what brush you use, you need to master your mascara application technique to get the lash effect you're after. Cosmopolitan provided several key tips, including wiggling the mascara through your lashes as you apply to get an even coating, not forgetting to coat both your top and bottom lashes to achieve a bright-eyed look, and holding the brush at a horizontal angle to get those glam goddess lashes.
And of course, don't forget to curl your lashes! It might sound scary, but Elle broke down exactly how to do it. The mag advised, "Gently ease the curler over your lashes, getting as close to your lid as possible, then squeeze and HOLD. Don't pump the curler, which can cause breakage. Simply hold for at least 15 seconds, then gently open, removing the curler with care." Doesn't sound so bad, right? Just try not to poke your eye!
As for picking the right brush, find the look you want below so you'll know which to use!
1. Curled Lashes
Diorshow Extrase Mascara, $29.50, Dior
For old Hollywood-style curled lashes, you want a curved brush that's going to lift your lashes. Elle suggested wands with nylon bristles that will "act as Velcro curlers to lift and curl your lashes." The magazine added, "This is great if you have straight lashes or are irritated by your lashes hitting your glasses."
2. Voluminous Lashes
Lancome Wide-Angle Fan Effect Mascara, $32, Sephora
If your lashes are shorter and you want to add serious volume, Divine Caroline shared that "a short, stubby wand with thick bristles that can get close to your eyes and grab each and every little lash" is the ideal choice.
3. Natural Lashes
Lashes To Die For Mascara, $22, Sephora
To highlight your already fabulous natural lashes, Makeup.com explained how the best wand to add just a little definition and length is one with "short, spaced-out bristles."
4. Defined Lashes
UD Mascara Resurrection, $15, Sephora
To fan out already-full lashes, go for long comb brushes for sexy definition and length.
5. Art Lashes
Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes Mascara, $32, Sephora
Want to do something quirky and unique with individual lashes? In that case, you want a spherical mascara wand. It looks a bit like a torture device, but allows you to easily coat individual lashes to create a very specific mascara design.
6. Wet Look Lashes
Ciate London Triple Shot Mascara, $22, Sephora
For dewy, "wet look" lashes, you want a large round brush packed densely with bristles to add thickness and bring lashes together.
7. Thick Lashes
Kat Von D Immortal Lash 24 Hour Mascara, $20, Sephora
As noted on Allure, a spiral brush "grabs and coats each lash, making your eyes look huge." Yes please.
