'00s WHCD Dresses We Will See Again This Year

by Julia Musto

With the White House Correspondents Dinner in D.C. fast approaching and the '90s and early 2000s coming back in style, I can't stop thinking about the dresses I'll be seeing on the red carpet tonight. There will definitely be some '00s inspired White House Correspondents Dinner dresses seen on the red carpet Saturday. Since the reintroduction of the early '90s and '00s trends, every day has been another throwback. From chokers to cut-out dresses, and platform combat boots to crop tops and spaghetti straps, stars have left no proverbial stone unturned when it comes to our most recent fashion history.

However, what I really love about the White House Correspondents Dinner is that the focus has turned to my own people: the media. Instead of just gaping at the perfect Lupita Nyong'o and Sophia Bush, you get to look at real people and their real fashion game. There are always a few awesome surprises. After all, doesn't everybody watch the dinner for Michelle Obama's stunning evening dresses? You can tune into the White House Correspondents Dinner red carpet at 5:30 pm EST, but the dinner begins at 7:30 pm.

Until then, here is a list of old school dresses we've seen that might make a second appearance tonight:

1. Bright Colors

Sure, the ruffles are a little frumpy, but Jessica Simpson's bright yellow is very of-the-moment.

2. Short Cocktail Dresses

Short cocktail dresses will likely be a hit this spring. If only it were more than 50 degrees in NYC. This black number features very modern, trendy cutouts.

3. Halter Tops

Halter style dresses are not to be discounted! The shiny fabric on this bad boy would probably need to be upgraded, but I could see this exact silhouette on a 2016 red carpet.

4. Lace Everywhere

Lacy little numbers like this should be prevalent with the rise of slip dresses.

5. Spaghetti Straps

It's time for itty bitty spaghetti straps to make a comeback.

7. Lace-Up Backs & Fronts

This is such a versatile trend and it's been everywhere lately.

8. Boho & Beads

I mean, Kerry Washington can look cute in anything, but I won't be surprised if boho is on its way back too.

9. Empire & Babydoll Waists

Kirsten Haglund wears it well, but I personally fear the return of the thousands of these dresses.

10. Shiny Satins

They were popular then and they're a great alternative to metallics!

11. Off The Shoulder

Off-the-shoulder dresses are making a comeback in a big way, in part because of FLOTUS. Thanks Obama?

12. Interesting Cutouts & Prints

Alicia Keyes combines both in this dress from 2009.

OK, so maybe the looks we'll see tonight will be more modern, but you can't deny some of these outfits wouldn't be so out of place on a 2016 red carpet.
