Blake Lively At The 2016 Met Gala

by Erin Mayer

Serena Van Der Woodson who? Blake Lively's 2016 Met Gala outfit proves she's left her iconic Gossip Girl character behind. Sure Serena is one of the best dressed television character's of all time, but Lively's ensemble at Monday night's event is just so mature and elegant. Think less "early '00s trendsetter" and more "timeless style icon." Lively is an exceptional red carpet dresser, so it's no surprise that her stunning, classic gown at the Manus x Machina: Fashion In The Age of Technology themed Gala is so unforgettable.

Lively opted for a softly draped pale pink Burberry dress with a cape-like train paired with long dangly earrings that grazed her exposed shoulders. I'm not entirely clear on how the ultra elegant dress fit the theme, but the romantic silhouette and red floral embroidery certainly set her apart from other attendees, who largely went for silvery metallic looks. Sometimes Lively's often classic looks fly under the radar, but not at this particular event. It's just very different than anything else that went down the red carpet. Sometimes simple and pretty is just as memorable as totally wild and crazy, right?

Her dress isn't all floaty chiffon, however — beneath the train you can see a shiny fabric peeking out that contrasts sharply with the draping at the front of her skirt.

So simple and clean.
