Adele is back to take the music industry by storm once again with the release of her third music video and official single off of her hit 2015 album, 25. The "Hello" and "When We Were Young" songstress announced that her "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" music video will premiere Sunday, May 22, during the Billboard Music Awards. It will be a surefire night to remember for Adele fans since, aside from the new video, Adele also happens to be nominated in eight different categories including Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Selling Song, and Top Radio Song. But, besides hopefully seeing Adele take the stage to accept some awards, what can we expect from the "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" music video?
The music video was not only filmed in London, England, but it also was directed by director Patrick Daughters aka the same director behind music videos for artists including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kings of Leon, Depeche Mode, and more. Personally, I'm expecting a much edgier take on the song, considering not only the upbeat tempo of the track, but also the way in which that mixes with the subtly-condescending message of the song itself.
Just look, for comparison, at the style of music videos directed by Daughters in the past. And, based on the short teaser of the video that Adele has already released via Twitter Monday morning, it's clear that we could be in for a whole new artistic side of her. Watch the video clip below.
With Adele seen standing against a pure black background in an elaborate floral gown, I get the sense of her being a painting on the wall. That would make the shot of the music video both simple and elegant at the same time. If the rest of the music video seems to fall into a similar tone, then I'm definitely not expecting some more leaf-filled, windblown shots of Adele like we saw in the "Hello" video. Instead of reminiscing on the past, this side of heartbreak being shown is the one where the woman gets up stronger than before. Basically, don't even try to mess with Adele when it comes to her level of confidence in this song. She seems to be clearly sending her ex off with the best note she can give.
The music video will be premiering during the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, May 22 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC, and the song, "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)," is currently available with Adele's latest album, 25, on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Prime, and more. So start memorizing it now, if you haven't already. By the time the music video comes around, you're going to want to belt this one out along with the rest of them.
