Summer is here, which means a lot of time spent at the beach for many of us. The sun is shining, the water is cool, and the sand is slowly working its way into your life — even your hair. Beachy waves are one thing, but sand in the hair isn't the most comfortable summer 'do. Thankfully there are easy ways to get sand out of your hair without actually washing it. There are even a few products that you can slip in your beach bag to help you get an instant fix.
Sand is great when it's between your toes, but when it gets everywhere else... that's when it starts to be a problem. There's nothing worse than trying to go from a day at the beach to a night on the town and having sand ruin your hairstyle. It might seem like there's no easy way to get the tiny little grains out of your scalp, but it turns out there's more than one thing to try next time your in a rush.
Of course, showering is probably the easiest way to get sand out of your strands. Just a few shampoos and you'll be good to go. Sometimes you need an even quicker, hassle-free way to rid yourself of the unwanted beach souvenir though. That's when these seven quick fixes come in handy.
1. Baby Powder
The number one way to get sand out of your hair is baby powder, according to Good Housekeeping. This household item works as a form of dry shampoo and dries the sand so it's easier to shake out.
A fine toothed comb also works, but it'll take a bit more time. Just start from the scalp with short brush strokes and work your way to the end.
If you don't have baby powder on hand, corn starch is a great substitute, according to Lifehacker. You can use it the same way as you would the powder.
I know this might seem like the craziest thing ever, but people swear by vacuuming sand out of their hair. Supposedly it works perfectly if your hair is already in braids. Proceed with caution on this one!
6. Air Dry Hair
If you don't have any of this on hand, then just wait for your hair to air dry and shake until the sand is gone.
7. Embrace The Boho
If all else fails, embrace what you've got and use one of these five braided styles to look your best even with a sandy scalp.
