'SNL' Holds Star Wars Auditions & They Ain't Good

by Caitlyn Callegari

All right, listen. My acting experience doesn't really go beyond a minor speaking role and a place in in the chorus in my high school's production of Fiddler on the Roof and a modern day Twelfth Night adaptation I did my senior year at college. But, I think that even I could have done a better job than these actors at their attempts to secure a new job. That's kind of the whole point, though. Per Entertainment Weekly, Saturday Night Live released bonus footage of celebrities auditioning for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, both real and parodied. And, let me tell you, like the first short, it is a must-see.

The short starts off with SNL unfairly putting Daisy Ridley through the painstaking audition process all over again in a chemistry test with a grooving faux Janelle Monae played by Sasheer Zamata, who eventually gets the reluctant professional to join along in her confusingly upbeat wartime dancing. Then, there's real deal Matthew McConaughey who comes bearing a decidedly handsome headshot of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Clarissian and his patented Lincoln car commercial voice. Vanessa Bayer-Jennifer Lawrence tripping during her stream of consciousness is another gem to behold.

As if that wasn't enough, the short also has the SNL version of the Black Eyed Peas, dressed as the cantina band, performing a cheesy Star Wars rendition of, "Let's Get It Started." Which, I can only describe as SNL Wars-ception. Not to be forgotten, John Boyega, Emma Stone, and Jon Hamm also do some of their best over the top thespians being uber thespian-y impersonations. The video, at least in my heart, is an instant classic. I mean, how could the presence of faux Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Javier Bardem, and Shia LeBeouf make it anything less?

Here is the first installment of haywire "auditions," that the site mentions, which you can check out below. You know, if you want to enjoy another laugh or 20 today.

You know, maybe I will give that Star Wars audition a try.
