Is This Another Clue About Star-Lord's Dad?

by Michelle Lulic

If you've seen Guardians of the Galaxy, then you're already well-aware of the fact that Peter Quill is no regular hero. Before giving himself the name Star Lord, he was just a kid who ended up being transported to the galaxy after the death of his mother on Earth. With nothing but a totally rockin' '80s mixtape to remind him of home, he's slowly using his rebellious side to do good for the galaxy as a whole. But now, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we're finally going to meet Star Lord's father. And, as it turns out, meeting the man behind the legend might not necessarily happen under the best of circumstances. In fact, there's a chance that Star Lord's dad is the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 villain.

Following the news that Elizabeth Debicki will allegedly be playing Ayesha — leader of The Enclave scientists — in the film, Nerdist.com is now throwing out the idea that one of The Enclave's creations, Adam Warlock, may be in the film as well. With J'Son of Spartax out of the running as Quill's rightful father — and director James Gunn failing to deny Warlock's possible appearance — this villainous creation could very well be who Peter and the gang go up against next. For the sake of a juicy plot, that would put Warlock in the perfect position to play Quill's unexpected father, which would put the Marvel Cinematic Universe in for its very own Darth Vader-type father twist. And I'm perfectly OK with that.

Adam Warlock being Peter Quill's father would end up being much more than a classic on-screen tearjerker moment when Quill finds out the truth. If the movie is going this route while also attempting to stay true to the comics, then there's a chance that Adam Warlock could not only be Star Lord's villainous father, but he could also end up going from a villain to an ally by eventually fighting on the Guardians' side. Warlock is a major player in the comics in the fight against Thanos — you know, Thanos? One of the major villains in the MCU? — that would make one perfect father-son bonding moment. Vol. 2 could give us a future that's ultimately full of hope for the father-son duo.

But there are other aspects in the running that I personally believe are working in our favor when it comes to the chances of Warlock being Quill's dad. For one, as of right now actor Kurt Russell is cast in an unknown role that could very well be filling Star Lord's genetic gap. And, just looking at Russell alone, it seems as if the resemblance between him and Chris Pratt is uncanny — and the similarities between Russell and the character of Adam Warlock certainly fit as well. Considering Adam Warlock's character is a supposed experimentally "perfect" man, it would make sense for Quill's human mother to fall for such an alien. Especially if he looks like Russell.

As of right now, there's still so much up in the air that's it's hard to know exactly who is the father of the hilarious Star Lord both character and actor-wise. However, I do feel confident in saying that fans are getting closer and closer to finding out. And, when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017, fans will finally know for sure if Nerdist.com was right.
