This Celeb Hates Wearing Lower Lash Mascara

by Kali Borovic

Ah, the age old question. Should you wear mascara on your lower lashes? A-listers and makeup fans alike seem to be split on the issue, but some celebrities have stronger opinions than others. According to Allure, Bella Hadid never wears lower lash mascara, because, well, she just hates the way it looks.

While celebrities like Kim Kardashian are for the look, Hadid won't go near it. It seems like we have ourselves a battle of two fashionable families! Although Hadid's go-to makeup artist, Vincent Oquendo, didn't tell the publication exactly why his client dislikes the look so much, there are plenty of reasons that mascara on the bottom lashes gets a bad rep.

According to Daily Mail, packing on the lash staple underneath your eye can make you look older. Others also say that mascara can draw attention to dark circles when placed on the bottom lashes. On the other hand, XOVain suggests that, "[m]ascara on the bottom eyelashes can help open up your eyes and make them look bigger by providing definition that’s more subtle than hard eyeliner." It's all down to personal preference.

We all have our reasons for being on one side or the other, but the key is to do what makes you feel good. If what makes you feel good happens to be wearing lower lash mascara, there are some tips for mastering the look. Just because Hadid isn't a fan doesn't mean you shouldn't be.

1. Try A Different Applicator

If you're having trouble with smudges, makeup artist Jeanine Lobells suggests rubbing mascara onto a fan brush and using that to apply it instead of the regular applicator. The extra step will save you the hassle of having to clean up all those black streaks.

2. Go Waterproof

The best way to avoid mid-day smudging is to invest in a great waterproof mascara. I'd suggest also giving a new product a test-run before a big event too, just in case.

3. Opt For A Smaller Wand

A small wand is ideal for coating the lower lash line. Some makeup companies even make mascara specifically designed for it.

4. Change Up Your Angles

According to MakeupGeek, the best way to apply bottom mascara is to slightly tilt your head forward to avoid making a mess. The site also suggests starting with the lower lashes instead of your top to save from getting those tiny black dots along your eyelid.

5. Opt For Liquid Liner

To get a more mod-looking lash trend, Elle suggests opting for a liquid liner to define the lower lashes. You'll get a bolder look and a more precise application.

6. Use A Setting Powder

Most mascara is waterproof, not oil proof, which is what your skin naturally produces. One blogger suggests setting your under eye with a powder to create a barrier between the mascara and your skin.

7. Try Tubing

If all else fails, you might want to try out different types of mascaras. Tubing mascara might just be what you need to end under-eye smudges for good. The trendy product coats your lashes in a different way to make for longer wear with no flakes.

At the end of the day, it's what you feel most comfortable with. Don't feel like you need to ditch your go-to trend, just enhance it with some tips.
