The 'Hamilton' Performance Electrified The Tonys

Just when you though the 2016 Tony Awards were getting a little slow, in came Hamilton to inject some much-needed energy into the awards show. And Lin-Manuel Miranda's smash hit Broadway musical did just that when the Hamilton cast performed a medley at the 2016 Tony Awards on Sunday night. The energetic performance included the songs "History Has Its Eyes On You" and "Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)," a song which includes the often-quoted and show-stopping line "Immigrants / we get the job done."

The whole company was present in Hamilton garb as they took over the stage and made the audience feel like they emptied their wallets and were able to secure tickets to the hottest show in Broadway. Miranda was flawless as always, reciting his epic rhymes as Alexander Hamilton. The entire company, though, put their all into the performance and should not be overlooked and it wasn't, receiving a standing ovation. If you didn't want to see Hamilton before, you surely are trying to get those tickets for 2018 right now. Miranda and the show have already won several Tonys already during the night, including Best Original Score, Best Book, Best Direction, and so many more. Viewers and Hamilton fans didn't expect anything less from this cultural phenomenon. You can watch part of the performance below.

CBS teased the Hamilton performance with the first indication that it was going to be incredible: A pretty cool 360-degree Facebook video of Leslie Odom, Jr. and the Hamilton cast rehearsing the song a cappella and, honestly, it gave me chills. Personally, that song is one of my favorites, but you can't go wrong when it comes to Hamilton, as every song is epic in its own way.
