Hillary Clinton's Heartfelt Response To Istanbul

by Alexi McCammond

After a horrific attack on Istanbul's airport that killed at least 31 people on Tuesday night, the entire world was once again reminded of the dangers that exist no matter where we go. Hillary Clinton responded to the Istanbul attacks in the best way with a simple, heartfelt message.

Reports revealed that at least three (and as many as four) suicide bombers took over the airport by terrorizing those inside and detonating their bombs. As the Istanbul attacks death toll continues to rise, it becomes clear that the attacks set out to do damage on what could be as many as 50 unsuspecting patrons. Whenever these tragedies occur, the presidential candidates release a statement that typically assesses both the situations abroad and what this means for us in the Western world. Donald Trump reacted to Istanbul in the least presidential way possible, calling it simply "yet another terrorist attack."

On the opposite end of the sympathy spectrum sat Clinton, who released a simple, yet powerful message: "All Americans stand united with the people of Turkey against this campaign of hatred and violence." While Clinton was of course referencing the acts of hatred carried out in Istanbul, this idea of a "campaign of hatred and violence" easily and clearly extends to Trump.

In her Istanbul statement, Clinton emphasized the importance of the U.S. maintaining strong ties with their allies abroad, especially with Turkey:

Terrorists have struck again in the heart of one of our NATO allies — and all Americans stand united with the people of Turkey against this campaign of hatred and violence. Already, stories of heroism on the part of Turkish police are emerging, as their quick actions to confront the suspects may have prevented an even worse tragedy. Today's attack in Istanbul only strengthens our resolve to defeat the forces of terrorism and radical jihadism around the world. And it reminds us that the United States cannot retreat. We must deepen our cooperation with our allies and partners in the Middle East and Europe to take on this threat. Such cooperation is essential to protecting the homeland and keeping our country safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the Turkish people.

Clinton's response to the Istanbul attacks showed the importance of solidarity, staying strong, and supporting one another in our deepest times of need.
