The relationship between Adidas and Kanye West is stronger than ever. From Yeezy Season 1 to his constantly sold-out Yeezy Boost sneakers, be it 350s or 750s, this partnership was already deeply embedded for both brands. And yes, "Kanye West" is an overall brand with several sub-brands. In a press release Bustle received via email, the duo confirmed the launch of adidas + KANYE WEST, a long-term collab, which will include shoes, apparel, and accessories across all genders. This arm is designed for street and sport, so it's athleisure, which is all the rage in fashion, and more. But there's another element that will please fans of both adidas and 'Ye.
Adidas and West plan to expand into the retail realm and open stores. According to the press release, the stores will "serve as distinct hubs for adidas and West-developed YEEZY product." Shopping at and browsing in an Adidas x Yeezy boutique? Sounds like fun times are ahead. Locations and opening dates for the stores are TBD.
The release also noted that the duo plans to extend beyond its current lifestyle interests, introducing performance-intended designs. That translates to actual clothes for athletes to wear while performing, which is the opposite of athleisure.
That's a big deal since West is not an athlete and those sort of perf lines are usually designed by athletes. The collab will fuse the brand's technical capabilities with West's vision. So, yeah, that's going to be pretty epic.
In the release, West stated, "These past two years adidas and YEEZY have given a glimpse into our future. This partnership illustrates that anyone with a dream can dream without limitations."
As The Wall Street Journal noted, West's products will likely still be sold at existing retail locations. It doesn't sound like the future retail stores will be the sole location at which to shop this new partnership.
We'll keep you posted regarding the adidas + KANYE WEST stores as more info becomes available.
