The Spice Girls Tell Fans A Surprise Is On The Way

by Caitlyn Callegari

Rather than harp on our own frail and aging bodies on an anniversary as sobering as the one that is being commemorated today, let's take a look at the bigger picture. The, uh, spicier picture. It's the 20th anniversary of the Spice Girls song "Wannabe," and Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Mel B put together a video to thank us fans for "standing by them" for so long. Which, you know, as an owner of the Spice World VHS, two-time Baby Spice Halloween costume wearer, and once collector of all of the "sure to be worth something one day" Spice Girls Barbies, I more than appreciate. But the thing is, while the video is sweet and so endearing, the thanks in the form of a virtual hug, isn't even the best part.

No, the most intriguing part of the video is when Mel B, bless her soul, declares that that the Girls want to, "celebrate and have a party," and then Halliwell and Bunton join in as they all shout in unison that, "You're all invited!" *Points to self, points at you* Yes, us. Keep your squeals in until after you're finished reading, please.

There is still vital information for you to know about said celebration. After the girls exit the video, there is an easter egg of sorts in the form of a written message scrolling across the screen. It reads, somewhat ominously, "We hope to tell you soon what you want. What you really, really want... #WANNABE." So, you know, keep your sanity as you imagine all of the possibilities that that vague promise could mean. *Cough* I hope it's a tour *Cough*

You can check out the video for yourself below. And I suggest you do — it'll give you all the feels:

OK, you can squeal now.
