Ed Helms' 'Epic Fail' Comedy Is Happening and Here are 9 Women Who Should Star
Ed Helms' latest project Epic Fail just got picked up by Lionsgate and the script and creative team are now being assembled for this big-scale, action-packed comedy. According to the production company, Epic Fail is about, "an elite but highly unorthodox special forces team [that] takes their dysfunction and excessive firepower on a desperate mission to save America, led by the only soldier more badass and more mustachioed than a Navy SEAL, The Walrus.”
Yep, that totally sounds like something Ed Helms would come up with. We know he'll be attached to the film and Chris Poole is set to write the script. But as far as the rest of the casting goes, that's all still very early in the process. Fingers-crossed this out-there, but hystetical premise isn't a total sausage-fest. Because A. boring and B. we need more stories of women in these roles, funny or dramatic. We've got our pick of female actors who we think would make most excellent members of this vicious squad. Check it out.
Kerry Washington
After her stint on Saturday Night Live, we all got a glimpse of Washington’s comedic talents. And oh, do we want more. Plus, her affinity for drama would make her work on the battlefield all the more hilarious. Putting serious actors into funny roles almost always creates some serious comedy.
Sandra Bullock
Is there anything she can’t do? Trying to…think…nope, nuh-uh, nada. In a turn from her performance in The Heat, we’d love to see our girl Sandy play the loose cannon of the crew.
Retta
Retta has been the scene-steeling, live-tweeting, breakout star of NBC’s Parks and Recreation. And it’s high time she breaks into film. An actor with her range and delivery would be golden for a movie like Epic Fail. We’d also LOVE to see her big reactions and intimidating persona take on actual warfare…not just office warfare.
Kristen Wiig
If she can take on The Spoils of Babylon, she can certainly take on Epic Fail.
Gabourey Sidibe
Sidibe is known for her dark and dramatic choices in film and television. Watching her in interviews, she’s often hilarious amd so on-point. Watching her take on a big-scale comedy like Epic Fail would be a major win.
Anna Kendrick
Maybe we’re a little biased in the sense that we pretty much want Anna Kendrick to be in most things. As far as her comedy career is concerned, she’s totally ready to take on an action-packed and hugely physical comedy like this one.
Mindy Kaling
She’s already got a long-running professional career with Helms, so we already know these two will mesh perfectly on-screen. Her (sometimes) hyper-feminine approach to her characters would be so stinkin’ funny in the context of a special operations unit. Mindy Kaling with heavy machinery…can you even?
Sufe Bradshaw
Her stone-cold delivery on Veep is genius, and highly underrated. Who could make a pack of soliders or terrorists quake in fear while also being hilarious? Sufe Bradshaw, that’s who.
