Chris Pine Arrested in New Zealand

by Lindsay Mannering

Captain Kirk is in trouble. Hollywood actor Chris Pine was arrested for drunken driving in New Zealand on March 1. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Pine left a bar in the local town of Methven around three in the morning and was stopped at a routine check-point. His blood-alcohol level was over the New Zealand legal limit of .08 and he will appear in court on Monday, March 17 to face the DUI charge.

The AP reports that Pine was at the bar celebrating the wrap of Z is for Zachariah, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller about a 16-year-old girl who survives a nuclear was, and was drinking beer, but didn't seem intoxicated. He was there with his girlfriend Iris Bjork Johannesdottir (can you tell she's from Iceland?) and the Blue Pub manager told the local press that Pine was friendly and took photos with locals.

The manager of the pub went on to say that the wrap party was fun, but in control. He also explained that he was surprised Pine drove himself, since there were allegedly designated drivers on hand to help get the 70 members of the cast and crew home safely.

Z is for Zachariah also stars Margo Robbie of Wolf of Wall Street fame and Chiwetel Ejiofor form 12 Years a Slave. The movie is slated for a 2015 release, and is directed by Craig Zobel.

This seems to be Pine's first arrest, stateside or otherwise, and the 33-year-old actor appears to be in good spirits. On March 10, he retweeted an upbeat cast and crew photo.

Good luck to you, Chris. Here's hoping you have the luck of the Irish with you on your St. Patrick's Day court date. That is, of course, if you're innocent.
