The Most Epic Ping-Pong Match Of All Time

by Emma Cueto

Man versus machine. Somehow, it never gets old. The latest battle? Table tennis. Or, as some of us are still calling it, ping-pong. But whatever the name, I think we can agree that watching a human play the game against a robot would be awesome.

And as it happens, we're all in luck because the world's first human versus robot ping-pong match has happened between the KUKA KR AGILUS and table tennis extraordinaire Timo Boll. Boll, a German player, is currently ranked eighth in the world in table tennis, though he's held the number one spot in years past. The KUKA KR AGILUS, made by the KUKA Robotics Corporation, is typically used in manufacturing and is described in the video as the fastest robot in the world. Plus it has a really cool name that is all capital letters. And yesterday these two faced off against each other across the ping-pong table.

KUKA has already released the video of the match, though it's been edited down to about four minutes, so I suppose there's no way of knowing for sure if the whole thing really happened the way the video says it does. But it's still really freaking cool to watch. I mean, it's a robot and a human playing ping-pong.

As for who wins, that you'll just have to find out for yourself.
