The 2016 Rio Olympics are officially over, and these Summer Games went out in true Brazil fashion: lots of dancing, incredible bursts of color, and some bedazzled outfits. Before the 2016 closing ceremony turned into a Carnival-themed celebration, spectators were graced with interpretative dancing, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe materialized as Mario, and an arena full of bouncing greenery that left the Internet scratching its collective head. After all, it wouldn't be an Olympics closing ceremony without crazy memes and gifs to cherish for the next four years.

The theatrics of the 2016 closing ceremony were certainly vibrant and glitzy, but they weren't the only parts of the ceremony that made the Internet crazy. Although the ceremony was lacking swimming star Michael Phelps, another American athlete soon became the center of attention: gymnast Simone Biles, who won an astonishing five medals, four of which were gold.

The closing ceremony also gave viewers another chance to admire Pita Taufatofua, the Tongan flag bearer who made hearts explode during the opening ceremony on August 5 when he entered the stadium shirtless and covered in oil. Taufatofua appeared on the stage this time around — still shirtless, and still oiled up — proving that the Olympic closing ceremony planners were definitely scrolling through Twitter two weeks ago and staying on top of these memes. They know what the people want.
