Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Foundation Is Magical

by Sara Tan

An entire season has passed since Charlotte Tilbury launched her Magic Foundation to the masses. While it was hotly anticipated and received oodles of press, you might still be on the fence about it. Is Charlotte Tilbury's Magic foundation worth your hard earned cash or is it just another trendy product that all the bloggers loved to talk about? I decided to find out.

For almost a year now, I've been on the hunt for a lightweight, yet buildable foundation that could provide me with a luminous glow versus a matte finish. It doesn't seem like such an impossible ask, what with all of the foundation offerings out on the market. However, I just couldn't find something that gave me coverage somewhere in-between my everyday cushion compact and MAC's Studio Fix foundation (my first high school love). But after reading review after review (after review), I suspected Charlotte Tilbury's new Magic Foundation would be the answer to my foundation woes — and boy, was I right.

Charlotte Tilbury's Magic foundation provides full coverage, without that heavy, caked-on feeling. Even better, it doesn't look like you're wearing a ton of makeup at all — it blends into your skin super seamlessly, covering any imperfections or discolorations, and it also sort of "wakes up" and brings life back to your face — yes, like magic.

While I enjoyed how it looked and felt, I couldn't quite figure out why I liked it so much, that is, until I realized what ingredients were in it. Charlotte Tilbury's Magic foundation is made with Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid — two skincare buzzwords I am always on the lookout for in my products. While I have a shelf filled with moisturizers and serums boasting the two, foundation was the last place I expected to find them. In other words, I was delighted.

Tilbury also included a mushroom extract in the foundation, which, according to the press release, "was highly sought after as an elixir for longer life in French medical legend." Fancy! Beyond sounding cool, it also helps to tighten and firm up skin with moisture. If a foundation can promise to do the things that your moisturizer can, but can also provide full coverage, count me in — all in.

(This is an unfiltered selfie I sent to my sisters with a text that read, "Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Foundation is magic!")

Here's the TL;DR — if you're looking for a foundation that provides full coverage, leaves you looking glowy, but doesn't weigh your face down, this product is for you. It's also perfect for the skincare obsessed — you can wear it guilt-free knowing that there are good-for-you ingredients in it, like Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. Lastly, it's a fairly affordable price point compared to other high-end foundations, and comes in a whopping 15 shades, so there's a hue for all skin tones.
