This Is How Much A Chile Mocha Costs

by Lily Feinn

Today, Starbucks has revealed a brand new beverage that is about to hit their famed seasonal menu, and folks, the Chile Mocha is sure to heat things up. If you thought your Starbucks summer spending habits were reckless, budgeting for the fall will be even more difficult with this spicy addition. So just how much does a Chile Mocha cost? Welp, I have some good news and I have bad news. The good news is that for under five bucks a pop, with some savvy accounting you can basically drink one of these chocolatey dreamboats nearly every day and still have cash left over for Christmas presents this December. The bad news? You're about to drink so many Chile Mochas that you might just turn into one.

If this is the first you are hearing of the new Chile Mocha, allow me to catch you up on Starbucks' latest offering. This caffeinated deliciousness is made by steaming a blend of cocoa and spices with two percent milk to create the best darn hot chocolate you've ever had. But wait, there's more. That spicy goodness is then topped with a shot of espresso, a dollop of whipped cream, and even more fall spices and chile. Think of it like a twist on the traditional Mexican hot chocolate, that typically uses cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper to compliment the deep richness of chocolate. Yum! Now you're probably starting to see that why without appropriate budgeting we could get into some grande trouble with our wallets.

The Chile Mocha will be officially available in Starbucks locations throughout the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday, September 6. You may want to put it in your calendar, because that is the same date that the Pumpkin Spice Latte returns in all its glory! Starbucks Rewards loyalty members can start sipping on Chile Mochas as early as September 3.

If you are thinking of purchasing one of these babies, a Tall Chile Mocha will retail for between $4.25 and $4.75, depending on the market. For 12-ounces of caffeinated heaven in a paper cup, that's not a bad price. Comparatively, a Tall Caffe Latte will run you about $2.95 (prices for Starbucks drinks may vary depending on where you live), and a Tall Caffe Mocha costs approximately $3.45. So, yes, you may end up paying up to a dollar more for these magic spices, but it will be worth it. The drink is sprinkled with ancho and cayenne chili pepper, paprika, sea salt, cinnamon, and sugar for heaven's sake! What more could you possibly want??

We only have this beverage for a limited time, so why not spice it up while we have the chance? Carpe diem! Carpe di-coffee!
