How Much Does The New Apple Watch Cost?

by Kelly Tunney

In 2014, Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the first Apple Watch. The first Watches reached stores in 2015, and ever since, they have been sold as complements to the Apple iPhone. So as Cook once again took the stage to unveil a new version, many Apple Watch owners were likely evaluating whether upgrading to the new device will be worth it. The price of the latest Watch will surely have an effect on that decision. So how much is the Series 2 Apple Watch?

During the Apple event on Wednesday, Cook announced that the price of the Apple Watch Series 2 will be — are you ready? — $369. In addition, the original iPhone will now be $269. The new Watch will be waterproof, and feature a Pokemon Go function and enhanced features, including the ability to closely monitor your progress on a hike. The Series 2 also has standalone GPS.

At the end of August, Apple Watch prices dropped to just under $200. The Apple Watches were selling for $199 online at Best Buy on Aug. 27, just a week and a half before the new Watch was set to be unveiled. The $199 pricing was a $100 cut on the $299 price Apple has maintained for quite some time. The original Apple Watch started at a base price of $349, according to 9to5 Mac.

Prices go up from there, depending on the type of Watch (Sport, Hermes, Edition, and Watch), the size, and the watch band.

The most expensive watch listed on Apple's site is $17,000 and features an 18-karat rose or yellow gold case around the watch head, with a rose grey or bright red modern buckle. Clearly, these versions are meant to make more of a fashion statement than the less expensive types, as they are plated in expensive 18-karat gold.
