When it comes to awards shows, we all know the outfits coming down the red carpet are just as important as the awards themselves. It's why we load up on popcorn, park ourselves in front of E! three hours before the show actually starts, and endure Giuliana Rancic forcing celebrities to take a hand-stroll in front of the mani cam — all for the sake of getting a sneak peak at who wore what before they take their seats. Sometimes, though, the best outfits aren't on the carpet... they're on stage. I'm talking about the best Emmys host outfits of all time.
While the Emmys have overwhelmingly been hosted by men (what's up with that, by the way?) there have been some stand out women in the last decade who have shown that you can be chic and funny... as if we needed further proof. From glitzy dresses to fashion-forward suiting, these stars each brought their own unique personalities to their hosting duties by way of personal style.
Here are seven of the best Emmy's host outfits of all time to get you ready for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy awards this Sunday night.
1. Ellen DeGeneres
IMO, there is really nothing chicer than a woman in a tux (thanks, Jenna Lyons for making that socially acceptable, by the way) — especially when it's a white tux with a Karl Lagerfeld approved oversized bow.
2. Jane Lynch
Thiis glitzy number (and this pose!) that Jane Lynch whipped out at the 2010 ceremony has me literally screaming "YASSSS QUEEN."
3. Jane Lynch
Because if you're hosting the Emmys, one sparkly dress just isn't enough.
4. Wanda Sykes
Wanda Sykes co-hosted the 2003 Emmy's with 10 other people, and chose the most 2003 outfit she could possibly find. The ombre! The pashmina! The blue eye makeup!
5. Oprah
And you get an Emmy! And you get an Emmy! Everybody's getting an Emmyyyyyyyy
6. Heidi Klum
Leave it to supermodel Heidi Klum to treat the stage at the 2008 Emmy Awards as her own personal runway.
7. Neil Patrick Harris
I know, I know — I said this list would be all about the amazing women who hosted the Emmy's, but NPH deserves an honorable mention for this look. His dapper, maroon suit — complete with velvet lapels — is my personal favorite look on this list. No surprise, considering how much I love a man in a dapper, colored blazer (my prom date wore a white one and it was hot). He looks legend — wait for it — ary.
I can't wait to see what Jimmy Kimmel will show up wearing — hopefully something more exciting than a black tuxedo suit.
