These Quotes Prove Brangelina's Love Was Real
Look, we all know Hollywood has its fair share of relationships that seem to be more about publicity than an actual connection between two people, but some never fall into that category. So, I think many will agree with me when I say I never saw this day coming, but here we are: Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, according to a TMZ report. The pair were married for a little over two years but were together for more than a decade, and these quotes from Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt about love prove their relationship was the real deal.
Update: Jolie's lawyer has confirmed that she did in fact file for divorce from Pitt in a statement to Reuters: "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time," said Robert Offer, according to the newswire.
Update 2: Brad Pitt has released a statement to PEOPLE confirming the news: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
Of course, many fans of Brangelina will remember that the beginning of their relationship was a bit controversial since Pitt broke up with his longtime girlfriend (and America's sweetheart) Jennifer Aniston shortly before starting his relationship with Jolie. I, for one, will admit that I was heartbroken Pitt and Aniston didn't work out — and, as a result, wasn't super welcoming of the power couple that was Brangelina. But, Pitt and Jolie's steady romance became somewhat of a rock in Hollywood; while other couples came and went, Brangelina stayed together and shared custody of their six children. Now, to prove that their love was truly something special. I've assembled a number of quotes about love from both Pitt and Jolie.
1. They Were A Pair
As Jolie told Vogue in 2006 while speaking about their time working together on Mr. and Mrs. Smith , the duo found that they just sort of clicked:
Anything we had to do with each other, we just found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork. We just became kind of a pair.
2. Love Takes Work
Of course, there's more to a longterm relationship than simply a spark, it takes plenty of work — something that Jolie knew and explain in an interview with Extra:
He’s my family, he’s not just a lover and a partner - which he is, wonderfully - but he’s my family now. We have history and we work hard to make it great. We don’t kind of relax about it and take each other for granted.
3. Love Means Support
It's important to support the person you're in a relationship with as well as feel supported by that person, as Pitt exemplified during an 2015 interview with V Magazine:
It's surprising how much I enjoy the direction of my wife. She's decisive, incredibly intuitive, and might I say sexy at her post. I trust her with my life.
4. They Were Proud Of Each Other
Taking the fact that they supported each other a step further, Jolie and Pitt were proud of each other as well. For his part, Pitt wasn't afraid to admit that he cared what Jolie thought of him in a 2012 interview with Daily Mail, in which he also gushed about his partner:
One of the best things I’ve done is ensure my kids have a good mother. Of course I want her approval. Angie is a force, she cares deeply. I want her to be proud of her man.
5. Love Requires Boldness
During a 2014 interview with RadioTimes about By the Sea — a film Jolie wrote, directed and starred in opposite Pitt — the actress spoke about working together for the first time in a decade. But, sometimes love requires boldness:
It feels a little daunting. We haven't worked together for 10 years. But all of the reasons why people say we should be scared of it, we feel that's exactly why we have to do this — because we can. So we're going to go boldly.
6. They Shared The Parenting
Both Jolie and Pitt enjoy their role as parents, and they seemed to equally share the duties that came along with it. In a 2011 interview with Parade, Pitt gushed about Jolie as a mom and explained their shared role:
One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom. She’s such a great mom. Oh, man, I’m so happy to have her. With a partner like Angie, I know that when I’m working, the kids are happy, safe, and prospering. And when Angie’s working, she knows she has the same.
7. Love Can Be A Job You Enjoy
If love takes work, it also stands to reason that love can be a job — but the kind of job you wake up every day excited to get to. In an interview with People in 2015, Jolie likened her relationship with Pitt to a job in the most adorable way:
Brad and I are fortunate because we see the beauty in each other's changes. … It strengthens a relationship if you can pass those big fights and those big things where you really come head-to-head. … As much as we can argue and fight, and we all have our challenges, at the end I say, 'My job is to love him.'
8. Soul Mates Can Be Real
Whether you believe in soul mates or not, an incredibly successful relationship can open your heart and your mind to the idea. Pitt certainly considered Jolie his soul mate and said as much in a 2009 interview with Parade: "I have love in my life, a soul mate — absolutely."
So, no matter what happens in the coming months with the divorce between Pitt and Jolie, we can rest assured that love is real, but sometimes relationships just don't work out.
