Last weekend on Saturday Night Live, cast member Cecily Strong gave viewers an unexpectedly amazing impression of Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda, one that the Tony Award-winner has praised on Twitter. But on Oct. 8, it's Miranda's turn to bring the funny as host of the show — and maybe some impressions of his own. The actor and composer will get a chance to show his comedic side during the show, but could other Hamilton stars appear on SNL with Lin-Manuel Miranda? While most of the original cast of the smash hit Broadway musical have moved onto other projects, many of the actors have remained in New York City, making some cameos from Aaron Burr (sir) and the Schuyler Sisters totally possible.
As you know, NYC happens to be the headquarters of Broadway, Hamilton, and SNL — it's the City Where It Happens, if you will. So I wouldn't be surprised if Leslie Odom, Jr. (who played Aaron Burr in Hamilton), Daveed Diggs (who played Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette), Phillipa Soo (Eliza Schuyler Hamilton), Renée Elise Goldsberry (Angelica Schuyler), and others didn't throw away their shot at supporting the former Alexander Hamilton.
But, who's more likely to show than others? I decided to investigate and figure out who is still in NYC and who fans could possibly see on SNL with Miranda on Saturday.
Leslie Odom, Jr.
Earlier this week, Us Weekly reported that the Tony winner performed for Whoopi Goldberg at NYC's Rainbow Room and posed for cute photos with The Color Purple star Cynthia Erivo (above), so it seems likely that Odom will be in NYC this weekend. After that, according to Broadway.com, Odom will head to Los Angeles in November to perform at the Los Angeles' Valley Performing Arts Center.
Daveed Diggs
Sadly, the Tony-winning fastest rapper Broadway has seen may not bring his quick rhymes to SNL. Diggs is currently on the west coast, according to his social media posts. Diggs has been posting photos to his Instagram account from Downtown Los Angeles, and Long Beach, California. The actor has many TV appearances lately, guest starring on ABC's black-ish and Netflix's The Get Down.
Phillipa Soo
The actor who formerly played Eliza seems to be spending some time on the west coast, according to social media, so it doesn't seem like the original Alexander and Eliza will be reunited on SNL. Soo has been posting photos on her Instagram account of Redwood trees, gorgeous coastal vistas, and Disneyland. The reason for this west coast living could be because she's prepping to star as the title character in Amelie at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theater, starting in December.
Renée Elise Goldsberry
Last week, the Tony-winning actor appeared with Miranda at the New York Film Festival's premiere of Hamilton's America, a documentary about — what else? — the musical Hamilton, in which she plays Angelica. "This documentary is awesome! What a celebration! (I cried a lot.)," she wrote in a caption of a photo she posted on her Instagram account. Fortunately, it seems like Goldsberry is in NYC right now and that makes an SNL cameo more likely.
Christopher Jackson
Hamilton's original George Washington posted the above tweet, supporting Miranda's SNL hosting gig — or could it also be a hint that he'll be there, too? According to Twitter, Jackson also appeared at the NYC premiere of Hamilton's America , so he could be in the city this weekend.
Javier Muñoz
Miranda's understudy for Alexander Hamilton inherited the role permanently earlier this year, so Muñoz definitely in NYC — or else there's no Hamilton. He's also been posting photos on Twitter and Periscoping from backstage. It's totally possible the new Hamilton and the original could meet up on the SNL sound stage.
No matter what, Miranda's episode of SNL will hopefully be as good as Hamilton.
