How The Internet Celebrated Happiness Day

The are a lot of weird and wacky holidays out there, but this one might just be the best one yet. Yesterday was International Day of Happiness, and we hope you celebrated appropriately.

First initiated by the United Nations in 2012, International Day of Happiness occurs each year on March 20th. It strives to celebrate “the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings” — and really, I can’t think of a better thing to celebrate. Naturally, people across the globe took to the Internet yesterday to give us a taste of what makes them happy. Using the hashtag #happinessday, we got responses as varied as this big, wonderful, possibly doomed world of ours.

Um, ADORABLE:

Some folks gave us some instructions for the day to make sure we reached our maximum happiness potential:

Which others dutifully followed:

It definitely doesn’t hurt to remember sayings like this:

Or, alternatively, this:

LIFE magazine dug what might just be the happiest photo ever taken out of their amazing and seemingly endless vaults:

And this? Love it:

In conclusion:

All day. Every day.

Go forth and be happy!
