Chrissy Teigen Changes Her Twitter In A Big Way

by Daniela Cabrera

When I think of Twitter, a few celebrities come to mind who use the platform to its fullest extent, by replying to fans, fighting with other celebs, and keeping up with historic events, just like us mere mortals. Over the years, Chrissy Teigen has amassed a huge Twitter following for her extremely candid and hilarious observations, but the negative effects of social media have gotten to her. On Tuesday, Teigen protected her tweets, and it appears she's doing it to take a social media break, something everyone should once in a while.

When a fan responded to a now-protected tweet asking, "Is your account on private now?" Teigen responded, "Yeah. Not strong enough anymore."

Take a minute to even imagine how life would be if your every tweet was replied to by thousands of people, and no matter how innocent or mundane, it would be responded to with hate or criticism. The pressure would grow to be too great, and Teigen has decided to take matters into her own hands. According to her currently pinned tweet, Teigen is taking a break from receiving unnecessary negative energy:

“It’s not haters or trolls or generally mean people. I just feel like I am absorbing bad sh-t 24/7. My body and mind cannot handle it anymore.”

She made a good decision for herself considering almost every time I read a headline about Teigen's comments on Twitter, she somehow always needs to defend herself and her opinions. While she still has 2.88 million followers who can still see her tweets and interact with her, having protected tweets means that those looking to start trouble with her who didn't previously follow her won't be able to view her tweets and won't be able to follow her unless she approves them. Also, her tweets won't show up in search engines. So, if you were a fan and follower before she protected her Twitter, you can still view her tweets, but will not be able to retweet her.

Honestly, I am happy that Teigen wanted to take a stand against the negativity and hopefully she will receive nothing but support from the fans who truly love and support her. She's got other more important things to worry about than haters on social media.
