by Emma Goddard

The actor who played the character Frank Mathison, CIA officer Carrie Mathison’s father, on the popular series Homeland, and who also appeared in shows like White Collar and The Good Wife, James Rebhorn died at 65 years old. Rebhorn, who died at his home on Friday, March 21, was recognized for much of his work on TV but also proved to have quite the success in the movie industry. He starred in numerous films like Cold Mountain, Real Steel, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Independence Day, Snow Falling on Cedars and The Talented Mr. Ripley. In addition to this, Rebhorn also made an appearance in several Broadway productions like Too Much, Too Much, Too Many, proving that he could take his talent anywhere, whether from TV shows to the stage or to the big screen.

Although the actor’s role was somewhat minor in Showtime’s Homeland, Rebhorn did have a recent recurring role on USA Network’s White Collar where he played the character Reese Hughes.

Currently, there is no news about the cause of death, but many have already taken to social media to send their condolences to the actor’s family. English film and television actor, Ryan Cartwright, tweeted “Saddened by the passing of a legend. James Rebhorn. Wonderful actor. :(.” Similarly, comedian and actor Patton Oswalt tweeted, “James Rebhorn, RIP. On behalf of all film buffs, we took for granted you’d always be there & be great, ‘cause you always were” and “I’ve always thought James Rebhorn’s role in THE GAME was based partly on how people must’ve reacted to him in real life. #thatguy.”
