How To Endorse A Candidate On Facebook

by Emma Cueto

People have been discussing their political opinions on Facebook since... well, since there was a Facebook, and now you can take that one step further by officially endorsing candidates on the site. So how do you endorse a candidate on Facebook? Fortunately, it's pretty easy.

Endorsing a candidate on Facebook is meant to give a candidate your stamp of approval, so to speak. The endorsement won't be visible to the general public, although candidates can choose to publicize Facebook endorsements from notable figures. However, endorsing a candidate will post the endorsement to your timeline, and if any of your friends looks at a candidate's endorsement page, they'll be able to see your endorsement there. It's both a more official and more low-key way of making your political beliefs known on Facebook.

Similar to how politicians, newspapers, and organizations endorse candidates for elected office, this feature allows anyone on Facebook to do the same," Facebook’s product manager for civic engagement Samidh Chakrabart said to Business Insider. "People who want to voice their support can visit a candidate’s Page, click on the endorsements tab, and explain their rationale for choosing that candidate.”

So how exactly do you do this? It's actually pretty easy. Here's the step-by-step.

1. Go To A Politician's Facebook Page

For instance, Hillary Clinton.

2. Select The Endorsements Option

You can find it along the side, under their picture. This option is also available for politicians who aren't running for president — or even for politicians who aren't even up for re-election this year, like my senator, Kirsten Gillibrand.

3. Click Endorse

You can find the button on the right-hand side.

4. Write Up Your Endorsement

And then you can post it to your timeline and let everyone know!

Is this better than the long, grammatically incorrect political Facebook statuses that are flooding your newsfeed right about now? I leave that up to you to decide.
